There are always challenges to
trying to do something spiritual and good. Those of us who are Jehovah's Witnesses know this and are very familiar with the various 'tactics' that have been tried to prevent us from doing what we can for Jehovah.
Here are just one that the friends overcame to attend the convention:
One bus attending the convention was detained by thugs and several bags were stolen off of the bottom of the bus. That meant that brothers and sisters lost all of their packed or 'checked' belongings below the bus. They had no clothes, shoes, and books among other things for the convention during the next three days. The bus in total rallied and gathered together donations to help the friends get new clothes and things for the convention the next day. The local brothers and sisters also provided donations and books so that all could feel comfortable during the sessions. They were moved to share what little they had with those who had nothing. A true example of brotherly love, a quality that Jesus said would be a mark his followers.
They weren't the only ones to be robbed that weekend but the amazing thing was that no matter the obstacles the brothers and sisters were strengthened by the love of the brotherhood and the amazing program. They didn't miss one discourse!
One sister said: I came because, despite our difficulties, I know there will be something on the program that will help me today.
Another sister said: It was tragic to lose everything so quickly, but the brothers were so generous it made me proud to be a part of such a loving people.
That's just a taste of what it was like at the convention. Even though there were some challenges and obstacles, they were overcome by the wonderful spiritual food we received and the overflow of love and generosity showed by the brothers and sisters that attended.
